A school project sparked by a mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya, has already raised hundreds of dollars for unsponsored children at the Missions of Hope (MOHI) Bondeni school.

Megan Kinslow posed with two of the many children she met on a mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya.

Megan Kinslow, a senior at Western Boone Junior/Senior High School, Thorntown, Ind., went on her first mission trip last summer, visiting MOHI with Traders Point Christian Church, Whitestown, Ind.

“During my time there I fell in love with all the children I met,” said Megan. “Their vibrant personalities and eager passion to learn made me realize how special it is for them to attend school.

“I also saw how important it is for these kids to have sponsors,” she added. “Sponsoring a child allows him or her to attend school, eat meals at school, and have the proper uniforms.”

Megan wanted to do something to help the kids at Bondeni, and the perfect opportunity came when her AP language class launched a “20 Percent” project.

High school senior Megan Kinslow is raising funds to help unsponsored kids at MOHI’s Bondeni school in Nairobi, Kenya.

“A 20% project can be anything you’re are passionate about or something you want to learn about,” said Megan. “It’s called that because we only work on the project during class time one day of the week. So every Friday we get the full hour to work on our projects.”

Megan jumped on the idea and set up a fundraiser on the CMF website to raise money for unsponsored children at the Bondeni school, with great success!

“Meeting these kiddos changed my life forever,” said Megan. “I am extremely thankful for anyone who wants to help me help these children who are so eager to attend and learn in school.”
